Charles: Hey, hey, hey this is Charles, welcome back to another exciting episode. I think we’re up to number six now, hooray. With that said, does marketing work for my business? We always hear that question. Marketing doesn’t work, or this doesn’t work, and whatever the case may be. If you were to dig deeper, just a little bit deeper, you would very quickly discover most people have the scatter gun approach to marketing.

I’m going to market right now, I get some work, I do the work, I don’t market while I’m doing the work, then I need to get back on the rollercoaster and go up, and down, and up, and down, and up, and down, and up, and down. And it’s a famine or feast cycle. For marketing to truly be effective, you have to look at it from a stand point of we need to invest X dollars. Let’s just say if we get $50, or $100, $500, $10,000 it doesn’t make a difference, but we need to look at investing this consistently and we need to look at it across multiple platforms.

 Gone are the days when you could just put up a billboard, gone are the days when you could just end some direct mail. I mean direct mail still works and it’s very effective, but gone are the days where you could just say I’m only going to embrace one channel. Because you’re basically saying I’m going to ignore … I mean let’s look at the channels here, we’ve got email, cold email works like gang busters, LinkedIn, content marketing, Facebook, social media marketing, Twitter we can reach out to … you’d be amazed at the type of people that we can connect with on Twitter. We’ve got Google Search, like your competition’s name, or reviews about them. We’ve got just, you know, searching in general, for “I need disaster backup recovery in Charleston, South Carolina.”

We have got so many different ways of using digital marketing. The problem is most people just pick one, ignore the rest, and unfortunately for this to really work it’s kind of like if you had a wheel and you only 1/10th of the wheel, you’d go, “Well Charles, this wheel’s not working.” You need the entire wheel to go around in a circle, like, “Wheels on the bus go round and round,” to make it work.
